In other on 12/02/2009 at 1:00 am

If you prefer, you may subscribe by email rather than by RSS feed. Either way, be sure to leave an extra comment, letting me know so I’ll be sure to give you the extra entry. Comments will remain open until midnight, EST, December 6, 2009. Winner to be selected using Random.org.

p.s. After taking this pic, I discovered that the fabric may not technically be considered a fat quarter. Even though that is how it was advertised when I purchased it, it in fact measures approximately 20″ x 21″ rather than “18 x 22”. Ooops!!! Oh well, it’s cute and FREE! Hope you enjoy. (And if you’re looking for the comment button, it’s at the top of the post.)

Be sure to visit Sew, Mama, Sew for a complete list of giveaway participants!

**UPDATE:  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED FOR COMMENTS. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED. I’LL DRAW A NAME AND POST/CONTACT THE WINNER IN A DAY OR SO. HAPPY MONDAY!

  2. open the presents at mid-night!
    Kisses,

  3. I love opening the presents one by one, it can take all day sometimes but everyone gets to see what everyone has got.

  4. Lovely fabric!
We celebrate Hannuka in my family, and my favorite part is when everyone stands around together singing ofter lighting the Hannuka candles.

  5. I love this fabric piece!!! One of my favorite holiday traditions is that we take turns opening presents -starting with the youngest and going to the oldest. It really slows things down and allows us to share the moment of giving ❤

  6. I’m now following your blog 😀

  7. What lovely fabric!

We have a small (handmade) fairy that visits during December to report back to Santa about my daughter’s behaviour!

  8. I love that fabric!

Our family tradition is to have all our relatives over and enjoy a big meal!

  9. My favourite holiday tradition is – the week before christmas my closest friends come over and I cook a full turkey dinner for them. We exchange gifts, kris-kringle style, and every gift must be handmade. This is always awesome as there are writers, artists, photographers, musicians, sewers and knitters in our group.

Then we all sit down with some mince pies and gingerbread and watch The Muppet Christmas Carol.

  10. My favorite Holiday’s tradition is to make little lights out of mandarines or clementines…
And of course decorating the house !
    Thanks for the giveaway !

  11. My husband and I invite my in-laws over for Christmas eve. They come after dinner time and we stay up through the night watching movies, eating treats, talking and opening small gifts. Its wonderful to see them and no one feels overwhelmed or stressed with having to cook for a large group or figure out what to do to keep people busy and not bored.

  12. very cute fabric! My favourite tradition is decorating the gingerbread house.

  13. Hello! This is adorable, regardless of size. 🙂

  14. Also, I have added you to my Google Reader. Thanks!

  15. Cute fabric, whatever the dimensions. 🙂 We love decorating the tree with the kids and then drinking eggnog and staring at the lit tree with the lights out.

  16. i love the tree hunt. last year it took 2 weeks to find my mom the perfect tree!!!

  17. My favorite winter tradition is CANDLES! I was inspired when traveling through Norway in the winter when the sun never comes above the horizon. Everywhere we went, there were candles in the windows. It warms you just by looking at them. Now I pull out my candle stash & try to make sure I’m using them all through the winter. Candles while I’m cooking, candles while were eating…

  18. My favourite Christmas tradition is making Gingerbread men to hang on the christmas tree. Kids love to ice them and they always look fantastic.

  19. My favorite tradition is getting together with my sisters to make 20+ ornaments for all our cousins.

  20. Oh, and I subscribed to your blog.

  21. My favourite holiday tradition is Fruit Loops for breakfast. High in sugar and low in all the important things lol My mum only let us have it for breakfast on Christmas morning, and now I do with my kids too.

  22. We’re Jewish so there is no xmas for us 🙂 but we love to have people over for Hanuka and eat lots of donuts!

  23. Love the cute fabric! My favorite Christmas tradition is making gun cookies with my mom and sister. We always have a fun time (sometimes too much fun) decorating the cookies.

  24. My favorite tradition is making gingerbread houses! Thanks for the chance.

  25. My most favourite Christmas tradition has to be putting up the decorations. I put up my Christmas lights on the 1st of December and then I deck the tree once it arrives (we get our tree from my in-laws who live up north). I tend to buy a few new Christmas Tree baubles every year, and I’m afraid that if I keep going at this pace, we’ll be needing a giant tree to fit them all on soon! 🙂

  26. Lolvely fabric and lovely blog! My favourite tradition is to cook all the rather huge dinner with my mam. We live in different continents and I don’t get to see her too often. So that is what I really look forward to this Christmas!

  27. I suscribed to your feeds through my bloglines! Was gonna do it anyways, but hey, if I’m getting extra points all the better!!!

  30. Great fabric.
My family’s favorite holiday tradition is reading the Christmas story and singing carols on Christmas eve. (Our second favorite Christmas activity is eating the lebkuchen that arrives from Germany in early December.)

  31. My favorite holiday tradition is listening to my Grandpa recite the Christmas story from Luke 2. There’s something about his deep, old voice with a flare for drama that catches our imagination.

  32. favorite tradition?
    eating! no… just being . . .
    love the fabric,
this year i treated myself and finally got
    a ‘real’ dress form —
the duct tape one had to go!
    thanks!

  33. Family traditions?? We have so many! One that I LOVE is we go to a Festival of Trees. People from all over the state of Utah make these beautiful trees and the proceeds go to a children’s hospital. My family and I go every year!

Then we also go to a local light show, we drive through beautiful lights of different shapes and charaters.

Thank you for doing this giveaway!

Thanks again and happy holidays!

  36. When my hubby and I stay home for the holidays, our tradition is taking the pups hiking Christmas afternoon. It is the best time for a hike since we always have the park to ourselves. When we visit family, it’s the early morning stockings with the kids that is our tradition. Gift upwrapping usually gets put off until after breakfast so we can wait for everyone to show up. But stockings can get opened right after you wake up.

  37. I love that fabric. Our family is obsessed with National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. We gather as a family to watch it and each year my Dad gets a little bit closer to Clark’s standard of exterior illumination – ha!

  38. My family goes out for Chinese food on Christmas Eve.

    HUGS from Portugal :)))

  42. OOOh, favorite tradition??? Which one to pick! Aside from redoing the Christmas tree lights to perfection, I believe our favorite tradition is on Christmas morn. With 1 hour of sleep and navigating early dawn, everyone rifles through stockings first while coffee and hot cocoa are made!!!! The the unwrapping galore begins…but yes, stockings first, also gives the parents a few extra minutes to come to….

Also subscribed to feed for Extra entry!

  43. This is my first “family Christmas” with my own little family – we haven’t any particular traditions planned yet, but as a kid the favourite tradition was the HUGE Christmas morning breakfast, followed by stockings and gifts from Mum and Dad.

  44. My favorite holiday tradition is all 3 of us going to pick out the tree and then going out to eat dinner. Thanks for opportunity!

  45. What a delightful fabric. My personal favorite holiday tradition is on Christmas eve everyone gets new pajamas and we put them on and have cookies and milk by the tree before bed. Its such a simple and sweet way to get ready for bed.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  46. Christmas lunch at my mom’s house is my favorite! Even though my family is very close and we see each other all the time, anyway, it’s nice to have a special celebration together.

  47. What gorgeous fabric! My favorite holiday tradition is probably the making of lots and lots of cookies/other sweet treats (which I must then give away so I don’t eat them all).

  48. i subscribed to your blog as i would to follow it & i would also enjoy the fat quarter, so please enter me ! thanks !!!

  49. Beautiful Fabric! My favorite Christmas tradition is on Christmas morning no one is allowed in the tree room till everyone is together, then we all go in together and read the Birth story of Christ.

  50. During Halcyon (which we celebrate between Thanksgiving and the Solstice), I like to sit in the dark living room, lit only by the lights of our Yule tree, and soak in the peace I feel. When my children are awake, I enjoy watching them sit in wonder and quiet by the tree. After they are asleep, I can enjoy sitting quietly with my husband or just spend a few precious moments by myself.

  51. my favorite holiday tradition is probably the opening of gifts and eating appetizers and snacks on christmas eve!

  52. My favorite Christmas tradition is taking $25 and stuffing the stockings my great-grandmother made for my family. I love seeing how far that money can stretch and coming up with creative ways to individualize the contents for each person! It’s even more fun when I can throw in a few handmade items–one year it was yarmulkes for Jewish events!–into the mix.

Thanks for participating in giveaway day and I’d love to win! Thanks!

  55. I like decorating cookies with my kids.

  56. My Christmas tradition is a little strange – but aren’t they all. When I was little, my mom would go to the Hallmark store and buy a Christmas themed puzzle. Then on Christmas Eve after dinner we would all work on the puzzle until we were too tired to stay awake. I think it was my mom’s way of keeping us occupied and not bouncing off the walls in anticipation. Anyway, I would fall asleep and “Santa” would finish the puzzle when he came to visit. Now I do this with my kids too 🙂

  57. love, love, love that fabric. I have an idea brewing already.

My favorite tradition? Orange rolls. Each and every Christmas morning my mom makes orange rolls. They are the 1st thing we eat (after opening our stockings). Now that I am married I make them when we are not home for the holidays.

  58. Cute fabric! I love decorating sugar cookies at the holidays, and also advent calendars. My mom has an advent calendar that is a tree that you put candy canes on day by day, and I am planning on sewing one for myself for my little family to start that tradition as well.

  59. The family tradition of opening presents one by one, each family member watching the other open a present is the best. I know my mom started it to prevent her 4 children from opening all their presents in a matter of minutes, but its turned into the nest part of our family Christmas.

  60. The fabric is really cute! Thanks for the giveaway!
    ap_lemos at yahoo dot com

  61. Love the pictures in your blog, so thanks to the giveaway for introducting me to it.

My favorite part of the holidays is looking at all the lights on houses. Since we live so far off the main road that no one can see our house, we don’t actually put up any ourselves, so I must enjoy them second-hand.

  62. I love these fabrics…We usually have big family dinner for Christmas

  63. I love hanging out with my extended family, cousins, aunts, uncles….the more, the merrier.

  64. OUr holiday tradition is going for dinner, together (our family lives in Holland, we in France) Each year we chose another restaurant. Chosing is already lots of fun!!!

My friend has the “elf-on-a-shelf” and I really want to do that next year! It’s so cute.

  76. Thanks for hosting this fabulous giveaway, and the cute fabric to boot! My family doesn’t really celebrate Christmas, but every year, everyone (the kids, the aunts and uncles) would go to my parents’ house and we cook up a huge dinner and then watch movies together until really really late into the night.

  85. Very cute fabric. I mostly think with my stomach as does most of my family so my favorite tradition is the night before christmas dinner….After rushing around, mass, and all the day’s travel (most of us drive over 4hrs) we have a platter of lunchmeats and cheeses and shrimp for dinner. It is nice and light…takes almost no effort compared to the following day’s event and totally hits the spot. We usually just mull around grabbing some food and standing around trading stories…I don’t think it was designed as a tradition but an act of desperation by parents with three small very inventive and active kids hyped up on candy canes and santa bliss but it wouldn’t be christmas eve without lunch meats now that we are all over 24.

  86. Love that fabric!!! So sweet. I love holiday baking and cooking. It’s the best part of it all!

  87. Definitely the holiday baking!

  88. I love all the baking… fruitcake, coffee coffee cake, British shortbread, cookies, etc and the dessert feast we do in the evening on Christmas Day!

  89. I like going driving a few days before Christmas (or Christmas eve) at night to look at all the Christmas lights. The kids love it – we pick a winner for best lights, most enthusiastic, biggest fail, most sophisticated, most colorful, etc. and then they fall asleep in the backseat.

We have so many traditions, but my new favorite is hiding a little elf figure (really a Santa Claus tree ornament) somewhere in the house and the kids have to find him each morning. 172. My favorite holiday tradition is a new one thanks to my husband. We MUST put a bird in the xmas tree every year.

  173. Oh my gosh, cutest post ever writing on the bag like that (so stealing that idea, for what I’m not sure yet).

Christmas, ah, so many traditions and I love them all, but my favourite has to be reveillons. I married into a French family, and it’s their tradition to come back from midnight mass Christmas eve and have a celebration complete with wonderful traditional foods right then in the middle of the night! We do a little version at home (and generally hit the 8:00 mass instead of midnight, our kids are still small) but it’s just such a lovely way to draw out the celebrating even longer 🙂

  174. This is the first year I am doing stockings in our family, but I just finished a stocking swap on crafster and I think I am hooked! This may be my new favorite thing about the holidays!

  175. My favourite holiday tradition is the Christmas Eve get together we host. My family comes over and we make decorations or a craft. It is so much fun (and the more Christmas cheer everyone imbibes, the more bizarre the crafts become) It is even fun for those who prefer their Christmas beverages without the addition of cheer as the others are hilarious to watch and photograph! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  176. How cute! My favorite tradition is eating pie. Yum.

  177. I love going to the midnight Christmas Eve service so that when you get out it’s Christmas already! It’s a wonderful experience with my family.

  178. awesome fabric!

  179. One of my favorite holiday traditions is the baking of cookies.
When I was a little girl, it was all about the sugar cookies. Any time I got to play with sprinkles and food coloring was a good time.
Now I am older…but I still love playing with sprinkles! I just get to buy fancier ones now 😀

  180. My kids love Christmas Eve because they get to open there gifts from thier Great Aunt Diane.

  181. My favorite tradition is that we put up our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving, and watch “White Christmas” with Bing Crosby that evening. So much fun!

  182. I love the rules in the picture! How clever! 🙂 Hmm… my favorite tradition is the opening of the advent calendar. It always has been!

  183. My favorite is the food, but then there’s just too much of it. My other favorite is the handing out of gifts on Christmas eve, always done by the youngest child (that can walk) , with great flair and suspense. For years now, there haven’t been young kids around, so I can’t wait till my little girl is mobile and talking.

  184. I subscribe in Google Reader.

  185. Our favorite tradition is having a family and friends open house gathering. There we have tons of food, sit around and just chat. Then we have a “Christmas Shop” in the basement where everyone “shops” for handmade items that we have made during the year. No money is exchanged, it is free for them to choose what they like.

  186. Cute fabric!

My favourite holiday tradition is the secret santa between the 18 first cousins in my generation!

  187. Despite no longer being a kid, my favorite tradition is still getting new pajamas from my parents on Christmas Eve!

  188. What a cute pattern, it would make a great sewing machine cover. My holiday tradition is to drive out to a remote Christmas tree farm with my family and spend way too long out in the cold arguing over who’s tree is best and getting lost and turned around in the huge tree farm. It always turns out that way and I love it.

  189. I also subscribed to your rss feed. Yay!

  190. My favorite family tradition is that every two years we stay home for Christmas Eve with our kids and do our own thing. We take the kids to a movie, then come home for dinner. We switch things up each time: one year we had fondue, one year we had steak and lobster. We haven’t decided what we’ll have this year. After dinner, we open presents and eat pie. It is small, quiet and absolutely wonderful!

  191. I love your way of announcing your giveaway! So cute! And please sign me up to win it!

  199. My families favorite tradition started several years ago when the kids were younger. We attend XMAS Eve Mass and afterwards got out to Chili’s for some quiet family time dinner…very stress free.

  200. I’m just going to be honest: my favorite holiday tradition is PEEKING!
    cynsaw2@hotmail.com

  201. Cute fabric and a “FAT” fat quarter to boot! Thanks
    Jane

  202. So cute how you wrote that on a paper bag. Anyway, favorite holiday tradition … the Christmas music. At our house, since I was a wee little one, my parents have only owned one Christmas CD, and it gets played every single Christmas. It’s nothing special, but we’ve always just had that one CD and never anything else. My parents normally don’t listen to music and it’s kind of a weird tradition, but those particular songs are so tied to my memories of Christmas.

  203. I love that night we buy our Christmas tree, we usually play Christmas music, make cookies, have hot chocolate and have a lovely evening decorating our tree!!!

  204. i love lots of holiday traditions, but watching holiday specials with the kids is one of the best!

My favourite holiday tradition is putting up the Christmas tree as a family. It was always so much fun decorating the tree together and then my dad would lift us up to put the star on the top 🙂

  207. I have to open presents Christmas morning! My husband’s family opens gifts Christmas Eve but I just can’t.

  208. I love opening packages slowly. My Dad is a compulsive paper-saver, so he and I swap a pocket knife back and forth to cut the tape. (Mom rips!) We have a fire in the fireplace to burn anything that can’t be saved.

  209. Driving around and looking at Christmas lights is my favorite holiday tradition. Thanks for the fab giveaway!

  213. My favourite Christmas tradition is decorating the tree – it must be a large one and it is decorated with lots of small things which have been handmade or collected throughout the years.

  214. When I was a child it was by far opening my Christmas stocking. Now as a parent it is the whole Christmas celebration. I am discovering the holiday spirit again, thanks to my two little ones. But if I have to pick one it is visiting Santa at a local craft fair and getting our picture taken

    momtokx2@gmail.com

  215. cute cute fabric
Kinda looks like it wants to be an apron?? or a thread catcher
My favorite tradition is making at least one dish for the “meal” from an ancestor mmmm love the special cranberry sauce from Great Grandma Anna

  217. My favorite tradition as a child were the presents(2) that we got open Christmas Eve. One from faraway family & one from “gramma & grampa” who came for dinner Christmas Eve. Grampa always read the story of Jesus birth and we sang CHRISTmas carols, too. Now I am passing the tradition on to my lil’ girl. Thanks for an awsome giveaway!!

  218. My favourite tradition is celebrating with the European inlaws on Christmas Eve and leaving milk and cookies for Santa.

  219. Now THAT is cute fabric! My favorite tradition is making homemade ornaments for the tree. My side of the family has done it for more than 30 years. As a result, our trees all look the same, with the same ornaments! Fortunately we each live in a different state, so it is no problem! This year I am making fabric bird ornaments. Turns out it is a time consuming project, but so worth it!

  220. I follow you on Google Reader.

  221. My favourite Christmas tradition is making Gingerbread men and decorating them with my kids. They get So whacky with the decorations!!!

  224. We’ve always done a present exchange with the cousins on my mom’s side of the family, even though most of us have kids of our own now. But they’re all being poops this year and opted out of it! 😦

  225. I live in Denmark and my favourite holiday tradition is the “advents krans” (link to image: http://www.fotoagent.dk/single_picture/10382/95/large/Adventskrans.jpg)
December is very dark in Denmark and I think lighting candles to light up the dark is a beautiful tradition.
On the first sunday of advent (4 sundays before Christmas) we light one candle, on the second sunday we light 2 and so on…

  226. Such adorably fabric! A Christmas tradition that we started when our girls were very young was I would put them to bed and my husband would go outside with some little bells and jingle them outside their windows so they would think Santa was on his way and they would go to sleep straight away.

  228. My favorite holiday tradition is eating “turron” for Christmas. Turron is a traditional Spanish sweet that is mostly eaten in Christmas. Its basic ingredient is almond, but there are lots of different flavors. My favorite is chocolate ^^
It’s still a bit early to be eating turron, but supermarkets and food stores are already carrying lots of different types, so I can’t wait to get my mouth on some of it!

Love that dress pattern. I have a similar one in black with the dresses in white. So cute! Thanks for the chance 🙂

  236. The absolute high point of Christmas and my favorite tradition is when all 20 of us are together at midnight mass. Beginning the official celebration of Jesus’ birth in his house is something that just cannot be topped. We’re all involved in the mass as either choir members, altar servers, eucharistic ministers, ushers, lectors. It’s just so special. Merry Christmas to everyone!

  237. My favorite holiday tradition is opening stockings on Christmas morning. Each stocking was handmade by my mom, and every year, among the toothbrushes, socks, and chapstick, there’s a new Christmas tree ornament and a movie. The ornaments celebrate something in each of our lives the past year (a lifeguard chair when I got that job, a car the year I was 16, a martini glass when my sister turned 21, etc.) From the movies, we all pick the one we like best, then we sit around in our pjs and watch that movie as a family.

    The fabric is awesome!!!

  252. There are so many Christmas traditions I love. The best has to be going to the children’s mass on Christmas eve. After church we go to one of my sister in-laws’s for munchies. Each of the kids get to open a gift on Christmas eve. When we get home we put out our treats for Santa and read the Christmas story again, just to reinforce what Christmas is all about.

  253. Every year for Christmas, everyone in my family loads up and drives 16-20 hours to spend Christmas with my grandparents. I’ve done it every year of my life and it’s my most treasured Christmas tradition. I know it won’t last forever, but because of that, I treasure it even more each year as I get older.
    Thanks,

  284. Very cute fabric – I love it!

My favorite holiday tradition is that we always get a real tree – which fills the house with such a lovely smell – and we keep it up until Epiphany (12th Night). Put up the tree at the same time, with certain ornaments put on in certain places in certain order, ate the same things for various holiday meals, took the tree down at a specific time. Sounds a bit anal, but ritual is so important. And oh yeah — Mom letting us open just one present before we went to bed on Christmas Eve (or else we’d explode from sheer excitement).
