advent

In handmade, things pondered on 12/02/2009 at 6:19 am

The Advent calendar is nearly complete. Despite my last-minute scrambling, it’s coming together more quickly than I anticipated. Thankfully, I have a few days to catch up. We’re hanging one ornament each night before bed to mark the days. Watching clumsy, chubby fingers coax the ornaments onto our twinkling little tree, we resist the urge to help for the sake of hurrying the process along. I hope that each year, as those tiny hands grow more agile, the wide-eyed wonder is not lost.

  1. I love this idea. This is a wonderful tradition for your family.

  2. This is one gorgeous advent calendar!

  3. I found you through the Sew Mama Sew giveaway, and though I’m not entering your giveaway (the fabric is cute but I’m just not sure how I’d use it and I’m trying to only enter for things I’d actually use), I really love your blog. Very glad to have found you!

  4. what a sweet idea, I love those Martha gingerbread boxes
    Amy (stickers and stuff)

  5. Love the blog. I love seeing my kids reactions to opening their advent calender counting down the sleeps to christmas

  6. Such beautiful fabric! I love your advent as well, very clever 🙂

  7. I am commenting again because I just subscribed! I also forgot to mention my favorite holiday tradition. My favorite tradition is playing christmas bingo on christmas day 🙂

  8. What lovely photos. And your ornament advent calendar is such a great idea. My 3 are now 17, nearly 15 and 9 and they still think decorating the tree (which we do on Christmas Eve) is one of the best things about the whole Christmas season.

  9. I love advent calendars, but I’ve been having a devil of a time getting one together this year. This one looks like it’s going to be stunning.

  10. I like to wake up my son with some presents on Xmas eve.. his joy warms up my heart 🙂
    Lovely fabric indeed 🙂

  11. The advent calendar looks interesting. It’s one of our favorite Christmas traditions. We also read the story of the Lords birth from the Bible on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
